Scroll down, install the client and see how the product works by using the free public server.

If you like it, download and install a free, but limited private server. And if you still like it and want to remove the limitations,  purchase your own server.

FAQS

Answers to questions you might have about the installation

What’s with the free public server? The old bait and switch?

Not really. Storage is super cheap and the public server is not the most powerful machine. We mostly offer the public server for free so organizations can properly evaluate if they want to purchase their own private server. That's also why it's fully functional. We hope to keep the public server free forever, but time will tell. The plan right now is certainly not to make money out of the public server.

Is my data on the public server visible to everyone?

No. No chance. Just like your mail at Gmail isn’t.

Can we trust you not to view our data on the public server?

You can, but you shouldn’t. Mostly because you shouldn’t trust anything you read on a random web page. If you’re working with sensitive data, get your own private server that is 100% under your control.

You mention free private servers for ‘limited use’. What’s the limitation?

You can use your own private server for free, but it’s limited to one user and two projects. We do this so IT people can see how the private server will technically work within their infrastructure.

What’s the difference in functionality between the public server and private server?

Nothing ,besides that the public server allows users to create profiles using their Google logins. Other than that, the public server runs the same code - just with an enterprise license.

Can I install the private server on my local machine? Run from localhost?

Yes, you absolutely can. For end-users we suggest using Docker Desktop as you can easily see running instances, containers etc. You can install using the ‘localhost’ option.

Do I need a lot of technical skills to install my own server?

Not a lot – you certainly don’t need to compile things 😊. If you’re happy installing software and you’re not intimidated by a terminal or a shell, you’ll be fine. If you only ever use a browser and you don’t know what we were talking about, then we suggest you use the public server. Read the documentation to be sure.

Can I export data from the public server to my private server?

Yes, you can. You move projects between servers using import/export. You can even select multiple projects and bulk export / import.

What is the minimum hardware requirements for a private server?

The Ubikron servers love memory - so 16GB of RAM is a minimum. If you have more, that's better. CPU is not so much a big deal - for VPCs we recommend a minimum of 4 CPUs.
